BIO

This British born poet/vocalist, born to Jamaican parents, has been singing and performing for over twenty years. Her alto voice has been described as “rich”, “sensual”, "soulful", “therapeutic”, "old-school" and "raw". The versatile music she creates falls under the categories of rock, hip hop, soul, reggae, funk and trance music. On stage, Chin-Yer is usually belting out confessional songs accompanied by the acoustic guitar or she can be found wilin out with her live rock band.

Chin-yer was the champion of Mustang's King of the Hill "Battle of the Bands" as lead vocalist/songwriter. She and her band have rocked stages at Ram's Head Live, the 8x10, 98 Rock's "Noise in the Basement" at The Ottobar, The Baltimore Convention Center, Power Plant Live, African-American Festival, Harbor Fest, 13th Floor at The Belvedere, Fletchers, Bedrock, Sonar, Club Reality, Eden's Lounge, Nowchild Soundstage, Pan African Fest, Tea Evolve, Chapalas,Yabba Pot, Urban Soul Cafe, Peace and A Cup of Joe and more. She was selected to open for Grammy Nominated Van Hunt and Def Poetry Jam's Black Ice. She and her band have also entertained crowds at Six Flags and Adventure World.

Music and writing are her life and passion. Chin-yer holds a Bachelors of Art Degree in English: Literature and Language arts and is currently working towards her Masters Degree in Creative Writing. She is the 2015 recipient of one of the nation's most prestigious creative writing awards/prizes (The Adele V. Holden Award) where she was recognized for demonstrating "an understanding of craft, distinctive literary vision and voice, and superior poetic/narrative ability".

When she is not on stage, she is teaching writing, judging MC Battles/slams, and/or promoting Baltimore’s artistic scene through her company “The Baltimore Scene” and supporting Bmore's youth via artist/activist organization 'Dewmore Baltimore'. Her 'Baltimore Scene' events “The Baltimore Crown Awards”; “Word War 1-7 “ poetry slam series; “The Masters” MC Battles; “$1100 Song Battles”; Producer beat battles; Rap God; "Hip Hop is.." live band ciphers; "The Movement" and various showcases, meetings, fundraisers, and online shows have been enhancing Baltimore’s underground scene over the last decade.
